Legacy....

I'm halfway up the second front of this black battenburg GFH - I had to take it off the machine today to make a last minute birthday present - man socks, size 14 - there's no way I'd have a spare pair of these laying around! If you're keeping track, I did them using 38-0-38 ns and made the foot 160 rows before the toe shaping (from my original pattern which is a freebie at http://www.knitwords.com/tips.html - the yarn is Lana Grossa pinto, the 'deal' one from my February on-line buy! http://knitwords.blogspot.ca/2016/02/one-was-deal-one-steal-and-one-for-feel.html
You know how I'm still naming my 'creations' (like it matters) and, as I've been slaving over this project (the black thing), I thought, I'm going to need to be buried in this thing to get my use out of it! But then, I know that's not going to happen because I've planned to be cremated and to burn this would be just such a total waste! So I'm going to will it to someone! I have a couple of nieces who are 20-30 years younger and it would likely fit as we are all the same height so they are good candidates...it could be one of those things that the family talks about every time there's a reunion- 'who's going to get Auntie's Legacy?' ;-)

duh...

Have you ever had one of those days where you catch yourself and say, 'why did I do that?' or 'why didn't I do that?'. I feel so silly and I apologize! I have had a few people ask me, how do I subscribe to your blog? and I say, well, there is a subscribe button at the bottom of the page and leave it at that. For some reason, last week, after another email, asking how, I took two minutes to do a bit of research and discovered this nice little 'add-a-gadget' feature that promises to take your email address and whenever I post something, it will automatically send you message to let you know there is something new! Go figure! Use it if you like! They promise not to bug you in any way and you won't miss out on the good stuff or get backlogged when I've been extra chatty!
While we are on the subject of 'duh?', I have to admit something else...for the past two weeks, I've been ripping my house apart, searching high and low for the KnitStyle magazine with my 'Bold Shoulder' design in it, which would have been #194...duh! I finally properly re-read my blogpost ( http://knitwords.blogspot.ca/2014/07/bad-news.html ) from that fatal day and it dawned on me! It was never published! The reason for my search - I had a great article about options for finishing techniques when using the knit side or the purl side as right side and I wanted to check what they finally said...nothing, obviously!
Did I say 'one of those days?' how about weeks? ;-)

is there a place for knitted greeting cards?

yeah, I have a small collection of them...they are usually from friends - some are pretty hokey (the cards, I mean) and some are ok. This one with the actual little knitted square has a few variations and the inside has 'Me neither.'

This one was a mother's day card a few years back from my daughter and the inside read 'wishing you a comfy cozy Mother's Day'

Here's a birthday card from a longtime friend - the inside says 'you're younger than me? I think you're bullknitting.'

This one reads 'happy birthday to someone who makes my world a warmer, more beautiful place.'

Awww, shucks!

Today I got this belated birthday card from my very good friend Cathy - I'm still laughing!
The inside message: 'older but sassier, that's you.'

one was a deal, one a steal and one for the feel....

'member that order for sock yarn I placed back at the beginning of the month - I got the parcel and oh my! It was more fun than I expected! The colours were prettier in real life than what it looked like on-line and I was thrilled  with the deal! You may have heard the phrase 'one to thrill, one to fill, and one to spill' referring to the method you should use when planning container gardening - I figure I now have a guideline for sock yarn shopping! I got 6 balls of 100g each sock yarn, delivered for $58 USD - that's a deal! It seems to me any time I go into a yarn shop, I end up paying at least $20 for enough for 1 pair and I have enough for at least 6 pairs! As a deal, the Lana Grossa (80 superwool/20 nylon - what I normally buy), usually $18 each was on for $7.50 because I got the last 2 balls in stock! For the steal, the Berroco Comfort Sock (50 nylon/50 acrylic - should wear forever!) at $6.85, what? And for the feel, the Misti Alpaca (50 alpaca/30 merino wool/10 silk/10 nylon), so yummy! And I got a coupon for 15% off my next order - OMG!
PS - I did knit up one pair of the Comfort Sock already - I did have to add a little more weight when knitting, but that and a little yarn spray, they knit up same as my regular socks (see 'warmup sox' under 'freebies' at www.knitwords.com for the pattern) - it's all good!
